Bulgaria, 2026, 54 min., Bulgarian with English subtitles, dir. Dimitar Kotzev – Shosho
Teachers, engineers, drivers, postal workers, doctors, students… These are The Last Prisoners of “Belene” Labor Camp, interned there during the forced assimilation of Bulgarian citizens of Turkish origin (1984–1989). This film tells the story of their quiet yet steadfast resistance, of their endurance in the face of terror inflicted upon them and their families, simply because they refused to give up their birth names.
