
After the sudden death of her father, the filmmaker is on a search for her heritage and the story of her father’s escape. Joined by her two friends, the cinematographer and the musician, they travel through Bulgaria. They examine places, texts, documents, letters and archival footage of her family from the past and present in Bulgaria and Germany. A memory-like dive between times and places, an ongoing conversation with a dead father.

Director’s Biography:
Lisa Marie Stojčev was born in 1989 in West Germany to a German mother and a Bulgarian father and studied drama at Hanover University of Music, Drama and Media. She works as a theatre- and filmmaker and actress. In 2021 she realised the fictional theatre film ‘The DJ is my father’ (shown at independent theatres in Germany, selected for Theatre Film Festival of Ballhaus Ost, Berlin). ‘This was 1965,’ is her essayistic documentary feature film debut.
